Welcome to TechLeap: Your First Step in the Software Adventure
A Personal Journey, Turning Dreams into Code
🚀 Greetings, Future Tech Stars!

Welcome to TechLeap, your weekly source of actionable tips and advice for landing your first software engineering job and navigating your early career years. In this first edition, let's talk about who I am, the motivation behind this newsletter, and what you can expect in the coming weeks.
🤠 Why me, you ask?

Well, I believe I'm in a prime position to guide you on your journey. About 5 years ago, I successfully transitioned into a career in software development with zero prior knowledge. Completely self-taught, I started from scratch.
Sure finding some high level engineering manager as your mentor sounds great, but the reality is they probably know very little about getting hired in todays landscape.
I’ve been where you are a relatively short time ago and can 100% assist you in landing your first job and/or maximising your learning and earning potential in the early years.
I kicked off my journey with YouTube, various courses, and a handful of other resources. I'll be sharing my favourite resources in next week's issue.
I made many a wrong turn, dove down some rabbit holes that wasted weeks of my time. Hopefully you can avoid some of those pitfalls by sticking with TechLeap.
In the end, what got me there was connecting and working with some fantastic mentors, and now, TechLeap is here to be your mentor!
⚽️ What's the game plan?

The goal of this newsletter is to help as many people as possible break into the world of software. Sure, it won't be a cakewalk, but with the right mix of determination, drive, and assistance (courtesy of TechLeap), you've got this!
Plus, we'll grow together – making new friends, connections, and keeping our skills sharper than ever.
Mentoring is absolutely a two way street, you learn soooo much by teaching others and as soon as you are in a position to do so (hint: it’s sooner than you think) you absolutely should be teaching and assisting others to solidify your own learning.
💰️ What can you expect?

Each week, we'll cover a specific topic related to breaking into the field or maximising your growth in the first few years. Expect resource recommendations, personal anecdotes, and me, your coding buddy, ready to help with any questions along the way.
This is not a newsletter full of how to guides and coding snippets. The internet is laced with that content, some great and some not so great, but the reality is there is still 1000s of aspiring developers unable to land a job.
That’s where TechLeap comes in - we will work on the less obvious soft skills like communication, networking and marketing yourself. We will be providing the blueprint to get hired and then thrive in your early years. Strap in!
🤝 What's your part?
